Rejoice in Technology, ‘puterLove preachings

People are often afraid of, or threatened by, technology. There are many negative rumors spread of the old school that computers will steal your jobs, brainwash your children, and replace all of the worldly comforts you’ve come to love.

WUT?!

People, you ought to rejoice at the progression of technology. Do you really want to be a data entry clerk or assembly line worker for the rest of your life? Do you want your children to have to inherit these dreary jobs? You should be stoked that computers can now take over the meaningless tasks that kill people’s souls. You should be happy that technology is a brilliant means of free education, and that it is full of potential for eliminating illiteracy the world over. You should be excited that we can do away with the old and inefficient. You should cry with joy that there is such innovation and creativity happening on a daily basis in the world you live in, by creatures of your own race (the human race). And if you can, if you want, you can contribute too. Everybody in the world should learn how to program, hack, and become masters of technology. That would put me out of a job as a programmer? GOOD! I’m always ready to move up and beyond.

Real talk. I couldn’t decide whether to put this on my tech blog or on my fashion blog. I love this.

#Yes, of course tech is fashion ;) [IMO]

Today there’s apparently something of a half-hearted internet blackout to oppose CISPA — and don’t get me wrong: I love the idea, but this particular blackout seems to be woefully misinformed. One of the main images people are using totally confuses what CISPA does (information sharing without warrant, permission, any regard for liberty and privacy, etc.) with what SOPA would have done (shutting down websites because of alleged copyright infringements).
So, if you’re participating in today’s blackout, a few things:
  1. Don’t use this inaccurate image. We’re not going to stop CISPA by confusing people about what it does.
  2. Use one of the images above, which are chopped from this great infographic (or, if you’re handy with Photoshop, make your own).
  3. Don’t expect a lot of corporate support this time. Unlike SOPA, CISPA has comparatively few big-name opponents.
  4. We’ll soon be taking this fight to the Senate. Click here for links to contact your Senators via multiple avenues.

Today was a hard day at work, and it’s not even over yet. I felt like crying so I Googled “programmer tears”. This is what came up.

“Ever use someone else’s pre-coded function and feel like it’s magic?”

— I did today. I’ve been trying to figure out how to dynamically get text inside a textbox to size up or down according to the size of the text box. I still haven’t figured it out as the code I’m looking through is half in French and half in Messy; but I had the Word app set to visible as I watched the words stretch and shrink in width and height to fit inside my textbox. So amazed right now.
